Squeeze: Britain’s Masters of Intelligent Pop
Few bands combined new wave, power pop, rock, and masterful songwriting as brilliantly as Squeeze. Formed in Deptford, London, in 1974, the band became one of the defining acts of the late 1970s and 1980s through witty lyrics, irresistible melodies, and exceptional musicianship.
At the heart of Squeeze is the legendary songwriting partnership of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, often compared to Lennon and McCartney for their remarkable ability to craft memorable songs filled with humor, emotion, and everyday storytelling.
With decades of hit records and critically acclaimed albums, Squeeze remains one of Britain’s most beloved bands.
The Early Years
After building a loyal following on London’s pub rock and punk circuits, Squeeze signed with A&M Records and released their self-titled debut album in 1978.
Although their first record introduced audiences to the band’s unique style, commercial success arrived quickly with their second album.
